Argali Records Netlabel is proud to present “RoMoXoZ / New Age”, a collection of electronica and ambient synth minimalism, respectively. As stated by Lezet, “RoMoXoZ” contains some of their most uplifting, lighthearted tracks in their catalogue, ‘which lent themselves to some tasty remixes in the style of early-to-mid 90’s electronic music’. Definitely something we could all use during these harrowing times. Meanwhile, the “New Age” collection was composed whilst under a spell of Vangelis’ music for 10 days in a row. ‘I did not know until about halfway through my 10-day musical diet that he had passed away. The music of Vangelis and his thoughts ended up being the sole source of inspiration for the album’.

Music for memories and remembrance.

Argali Records Netlabel is proud to present the “Second Quarterly Report Of Argali Records Netlabel: Forward Momentum”. Featuring tracks from long time friends and supporters of the label, this collection is an eclectic mix of electronica, techno, avant-garde, industrial, dark ambience, and noise. Forward momentum not only references the movement between genres, moods, and recording techniques, but the unsettled nature of the world we live in, as these tracks oscillate between soothing optimism, dark contemplation, and pensive disturbance. As befitting our troubled times.

Note: this compilation features a wide range of recording volumes.

Music for forward momentum.

Argali Records Netlabel is proud to present “Greater Things On The Horizon” by “Dawnbreaker”, a forty-seven minute longform epic of slowly evolving, blissed out beats, atmospheric light ambience, and chill electronica with a worldly edge. As Linn F states:

“My first artistic alias was Dawnbreaker, founded initially back in 2004 for the sake of releasing a soundtrack I produced for the school video game project. This is by no means a revival, just a proper alias for the final pre-pandemic recording gathering dust on my laptop”.

Linn F. (pronouns she/her) is a statistics student at Linköping University, Sweden, who makes electronic music in her spare time (mostly taking part in diverse projects of Slavek Kwi a.k.a. Artificial Memory Trace), curates/produces the annual INTENT compilation series on a French netlabel Kalamine Records, and develops Oriondrive (representational state transfer API), grown out of collaboration with Thomas Jackson Park. Her passions include programming in R, natural language processing (at this point mostly implementation of diverse AI language models), and hydroponic gardening. Interconnected DWC systems in her tiny apartment in central Norrköping provide her with fresh greens and tomatoes all year round, and something to gaze upon while working out a solution to the next coding/modeling problem. Some of her work is available on her GitHub, updated sporadically, as well as on her Kalamine Records page:

Thomas Park : Mad Fry

Listen/Download: https://argalirecordsnetlabel.bandcamp.com/album/mad-fry

Argali Records Netlabel is proud to present “Mad Fry” from Thomas Park, longtime supporter of the label, known as the creative force behind “Mystified”, in addition to a number of other projects and releases under his own name. This is Argali’s first foray into the realm of generative music. As described by Mr. Park himself: “For “Mad Fry”, I used a Python module I co-authored called “The GenerIter”. The GenerIter is freely available to all coders. I took our basic format, added some layers, and deconstructed the voice connections– ie, I made it so anything could be the bass, drums, etc. in the code-configurator. It had a weird way of making the tracks sound more spacey.” There is a simultaneous pensive and playful quality to the music, abstract and measured. But underlying all these qualities is the mysterious, and yet undefinable aspect of generative music. Where is it going and what does it want? Only Mad Fry knows.

“Walker: In Light And Darkness” experimental music tribute compilation now available (Free/”Pay What You Want”)

On March 22, 2019, an eclipse was observed by many of the well-known luminaries currently inhabiting the musical universe, darkening the space not only around themselves but the listening public at large. Three years later, these shadows, cast by loss, still lingers. Scott “Engel” Walker had died at the age of 76. As hyperbolic as our opening statement may seem, the cosmic imagery is apropos to Walker. After all, this is the creative force who once wrote a 21-minute epic “SDSS14+13B (Zercon, A Flagpole Sitter)”, concerning the transition of Attila the Hun’s court jester Zercon, from scrawling witticisms on ancient Roman bathroom stalls to turning into a brown dwarf star (the aforementioned SDSS14+13B). There are also references to Norse mythology, astronomical theory, Spanish cinema, and an alleged quote from Louis B Mayer thrown in for good measure.

The music of Noel Scott Engel, aka “Scott Walker”, has had a long term influence on Argali Records Netlabel. Starting out in the mid 60s as an orchestral pop crooner (whose four self-titled albums would later be highly regarded works of chamber pop) and later shifting towards increasingly dense, literary, and eccentric avant-garde deconstructionism (the Guardian once described his musical evolution as “…imagine Andy Williams reinventing himself as Stockausen…”), he often inhabited both roles simultaneously, eventually synthesizing both approaches into a unified compositional sound. In this spirit of genre transfiguration and music which defies easy classification, Argali Records Netlabel is proud to present “Walker: In Light And Darkness”, a collection of re-imagined renditions of songs from a variety of points in Scott Walker’s sizable discography, in addition to inspired original works, as a tribute to a man who helped shape the form of contemporary music as we know today.

Quick update

•August 3, 2021 • Leave a Comment

Hello all. This is a temporary update: we are still accepting submissions for the Scott Walker tribute compilation. The deadline for submissions is August 31st. Also, we are NOT currently accepting unsolicited demo submissions for the remainder for this year. In addition to the Scott Walker tribute compilation and possibly a year-end compilation, we also will have release(s) from the label co-founder along with Thomas Park. Details on these releases TBA.

Also, we are aware there is a number of layout issues regarding the site. It appears they are doing their best to discourage the “Classic” editor. Hopefully I will get this fixed over the weekend, along with some other updates.

Thank you all for your patience and have a great week.
